The term for the diagnosis of ADD/ADHD has changed multiple times. In 1980, the term ‘Attention Deficit Disorder’ came to be. It has changed slightly since then ‘ but the field is relunctant to change it again because of how negative that would be (it could impact the advocacy and legislation that has been achieved through hard work…)
The question is: Are there really deficits?

It’s happening more often - when a child is particularly difficult in class, the teacher asks the parents to talk to a doctor: could she have ADD/ADHD, can he prescribe medicine? Often, the answer is yes, and a child is put on powerful drugs without knowing exactly why she was misbehaving. But one quality of a good teacher is that she knows how to look beyond the problem to see the needs of her students. Here are a few things a she should consider before labeling a child ADD/ADHD.

ADHD is a medical condition which makes it hard for the person who has it to sit still or focus on the task in hand. At present, the causes of ADHD remains a mystery but most people believed it is heredity. Other possible causes include environmental stress, oxygen deprivation at birth, environmental stress/pollutants, prenatal trauma, artificial food additives, and even watching too much television.
